Liverpool 0 Manchester United 0: Five things we learnt as Jose Mourinho produced another defensive masterclass

Oct 14, 2017

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho was up to his old tricks as he sent out his side to frustrate Liverpool.

Here are five things we learnt from a tense draw at Anfield, which hands Manchester City the advantage in the title race.

Ant-Man growing under Mourinho

FRENCH winger Anthony Martial put in a real shift defensively as Jose Mourinho looked to frustrate Liverpool.

Everybody knows the prodigy is a talent going forwards but his all-round game is improving significantly.

The Special One demands a lot from his players and Martial seems to be benefiting from some tough love.

MUCH was made of free-flowing United as they shot out of the blocks with a barrage of goals.

But Mourinho proved he is still a fan of stubborn defensive displays – especially at the homes of his rivals.

The Red Devils can turn it on when they want but you would expect more displays like this as the Portuguese tactician plots a title challenge.

THERE are few United fans who would not list David De Gea among the top goalkeepers in world football.

And after his superb save from Joel Matip, it is getting harder to argue by the game.

FOR all United’s defensive resilience, Liverpool really should have taken the lead after the break.

Emre Can is capable of wonder goals – check out his bicycle kick – but his fluff when clean through today was inexcusable.

Misses like that are the kind of things which can derail a title challenge.

THE Reds have been accused of being a soft tough this season but were solid when United made it out of their own half.

Often susceptible on the break, Klopp’s side were never exposed by United’s pacey wingers.
