Lionel Messi hamstring injury confirmed by Barcelona with Argentine set for spell on the sidelines

BARCELONA fear that star man Lionel Messi is struggling to overcome a hamstring problem.

The Argentine had tests on his left hamstring after scoring his country’s only goal in a 1-0 victory over Luis Suarez’s Uruguay.

Messi has played the full 90 minutes in every competitive first team fixture to date this season including Barcelona’s two league games, both legs of the Spanish Super Cup and Argentina’s World Cup qualifier win.

And the Spanish giants are growing increasingly concerned that Messi, 29, has a reoccurring left hamstring issue with the club confirming that they will reduce his training workload before deciding on his availability.

On the official website, a statement read: “Tests conducted today on Leo Messi have confirmed that the player is still having trouble with the adductor muscle in his left hamstring.

“He has been recommended to lighten his training load over the next few days and his availability will depend on how the issue progresses.”

Messi will join Javier Pastore and Sergio Aguero on the sidelines as Argentina take on Venezuela and he will remain a doubt for Barcelona’s league clash against Alaves on Saturday.
