Leicester vs Stoke: Jack Butland slated by fans after disastrous own goal against Foxes

JACK BUTLAND was slammed by fans after his disastrous own goal cost Stoke a win at Leicester.

The England keeper, 24, accidentally punched Marc Albrighton’s 70th-minute cross into his own net to throw away a 1-0 lead.

Stoke were leading thanks to Xherdan Shaqiri’s 43rd-minute strike but finished the match 1-1.

Fans slated Butland as “shocking”, “unforgivably poor” and even took a dig at Joe Hart by comparing the two.

Butland did make amends with a stunning save to deny Riyad Mahrez eight minutes later.

Liverpool have been linked with a £40million move for the stopper as they look to tighten up their defence.

And supporters joked the transfer was “confirmed” after his howler.

England boss Gareth Southgate has Butland, Hart and Jordan Pickford to choose between for this summer’s World Cup.

Butland was sensational in the 2015-16 season but has struggled to recapture that form since returning from injury.

He spent 13 months on the sidelines – which included a string of setbacks – after breaking an ankle in England’s 3-2 win over Germany in March 2016.

A broken finger saw him withdraw from the Three Lions squad for clashes against Germany and Brazil in November.

Butland has managed just two Premier League clean sheets this season, shipping 40 goals.
