Leicester 1 Swansea 1: Federico Fernandez rescues point for Carlos Carvajal’s men after Jamie Vardy opens scoring

RIYAD who? While wantaway Leicester star Riyad Mahrez went AWOL again, his team-mates got on with the business of battling for points on the pitch.

The Algerian winger has failed to turn up for training or play since a dream move to Premier League leaders Manchester City fell through on transfer deadline day.

His manager Claude Puel has forgiven him but his team-mates are understood to be furious.

They seemed determined to show they could do without him from the kick-off, striker Jamie Vardy believing he was through on goal within minutes only to be flagged offside.

But he was rewarded for his efforts on the 17th minute when Harry Maguire played the ball to Kelechi Iheanacho who shifted the ball from one foot to his other – though it looked like he got lucky rather than a piece of skill – before supplying Vardy.

The Foxes hitman then slotted the ball home past Lukasz Fabianski for his 13th goal of the season.

The home side were unlucky not to be two goals up just before the half hour only for Fabianski to pull off a superb save and punch the ball away from Fousenni Diabate, making his home debut.

It fell to Iheanacho whose rebounded effort was then cleared by Alfie Mawson.

Seconds later Wilfred Ndidi lofted a great effort over Fabianski only for the goal to be ruled offside by referee Anthony Taylor.

Swansea, who have now picked up 11 points from a possible 18 since Carlos Carvalhal giving them a glimmer of hope of survival, seem to come back after the interval with renewed vigour despite losing Leroy Fer who had to be taken off on a stretcher with a hamstring injury.

And in the 53rd minute they levelled with an unmarked Federico Fernandez barely having to jump to head Ki Sung-Yeung’s delivery home.

It means they move from basement bottom place to 18th place, with just four points between them and 11th place Watford.
