But Aimar is set to roll back the years by signing for Estudiantes, 24 years after leaving the Argentine club in 2003.
It was where it all began for the 52-capped star, who was scouted by Argentine giants River Plate where he lifted five titles before joining Valencia and later Benfica amongst others.
Neither Estudiantes or Aimar have confirmed the deal but according to Goal, the veteran will be in their provisional squad for this year’s Copa Argentina.
The 37-year-old also plied his trade in Portugal with Benfica where he added to his trophy collectionEMPICS Sport
