Nicknamed ‘King Kazu’, the former Dinamo Zagreb man overtook Sir Stanley Matthews’ record and has now become the oldest player to net in the J League.

After his team saw out the 1-0 win in the J2 League, Miura said he sensed he was going to get on the score sheet before kick off.

He said: “I am always looking for opportunities to score goals. I was feeling particularly good today, and had a hunch that I might score.”

According to AFP, breaking Sir Matthews' record is not enough for the Japanese-born player who has intentions of playing until he is 60.

King Kazu celebrated his birthday after being handed a bunch of roses and as well as tucking into a slice of cake.

When surpassing Sir Matthews' record, the veteran was humble when talking about his achievement.

He told Fifa: "I don’t actually feel like I’ve gone past a legend. I may have surpassed him in longevity but I won’t ever be able to match his statistics and the career he had.

"It’s not so much about numbers anyway, it’s more about how you play."
