Rashford was twice nutmegged by Spurs defender Kyle Walker and Mourinho took his player to one side after the game to rollick him over lapses of concentration and lack of defensive duties.
The Special One is determined to publicly protect the 19-year-old, but has made it clear he has to shape up after struggling to make an impact this season.
Rashford, who scored eight times in 18 appearances last season under Louis Van Gaal, has not scored in 16 games for club and country.

Mourinho did protect Rashford when he was blamed for not tracking back when Arsenal scored an 89th-minute equaliser against United in mid-November.
But the player’s work-rate is suffering and Mourinho is determined to get the best out of the striker again.
The United starlet has not scored for his club since the 4-1 thrashing of Leicester on September 24 at Old Trafford.
And, despite his hero status at the club, Mourinho is concerned that Rashford has failed to kick on after an impressive first season.
