Jose Mourinho hails Luke Shaw as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League

JOSE MOURINHO claims there is no left back in the country better than Luke Shaw.

There was a stage when it looked like Shaw was on his way out of Manchester United with Mourinho not convinced by him.

But his recent run of games and a better understanding of what Mourinho wants from him has turned things around for the 22-year-old.

Mourinho said:  “He was already improving and playing well when I started playing him after that long spell without minutes.

“He is physically much better, mentally much stronger, tactically understanding the game much better and what we need in different phases and circumstances.

“I’m really happy. I can say that in this moment I don’t see many left-backs better than THIS Luke Shaw.”

Shaw, 22,  was expected to leave Old Trafford during this transfer window. When Mourinho first arrived at Old Traffordn he often took to criticising the young full-back.

But now the former Southampton defender has started five games in a row.

Mourinho added: “I remember the first time, in the Champions League, he was coming step by step.

“Now with a good run of matches and continuity, also playing like he did against Everton two days after a previous match, he’s good, solid.”

Ashley Young has started 16 Premier League matches this season and almost all of them have come at left-back.

The 32-year-old is available for selection at Turf Moor, having served a three-match suspension for elbowing Southampton forward Dusan Tadic.

Mourinho must decide whether to retain Shaw or recall Young.
