FIFTEEN years ago today John Terry was first made Chelsea captain by Claudio Ranieri.
The 20-year-old homegrown star led the team out for a Premier League game against Charlton in the absence of Marcel Desailly and Graeme Le Saux.
To mark the anniversary Terry dug out the vast collection of armbands he has collected over the years and placed them in front of his Christmas tree shaped them into the number 26, his shirt number.

His post on Instagram underlines just what a stalwart the Blues skipper has been in winning the Champions League, four Premier League titles and 78 England caps.
And one of 35-year-old Terry’s fondest memories is the day he wore the Chelsea captain’s armband for the first time.

In the caption, Terry wrote: ’15 years ago today I captained @chelseafc for the first time #26 #captain #armbands #proud.’
That match against Charlton saw Kevin Lisbie pick a hole in the Chelsea back line to score the winner.
But next time up Terry won his first point as captain in a 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

It was 2004/05 season before he was made the permanent captain. Since then he has amassed 575 appearances as the Blues skipper – 251 more than the next highest, Ron Harris.
Terry is certainly on a winner at the moment. Chelsea are top of the Premier League after eight straight wins…and he also took home the Christmas pub quiz championship from The Bear pub in Esher alongside Chelsea youth team coaches Joe Edwards and Jody Morris.

Terry, who still earns £50,000-a-week at this late stage in his Chelsea career, decided to donate the pub quiz winnings to charity.
