A BOBSLEIGH team is using a once-secret Nazi World War II bunker in Jersey for their training.
The passage was built into the hillside of the island by slave workers and prisoners of war taken by the fascist force.

The German army used the tunnel to store ammunition during the 1940s occupation.
And now the Jersey bobsleigh team use the former underground lair to improve their times in the daredevil pursuit.
Because of the depth the tunnel is set at, the temperature and atmosphere remains constant, making it an ideal place for repeated runs for the team.
Three times a week the team head underground to work on lowering their times for competitions.

The five-man Jersey side hope the unorthodox base will help their side fight for medals and challenge at the National Bobsleigh Championships.
During World War II, Jersey was left defenceless and the island became occupied for five tragic years.
The tunnel networks run over 1km in length and now large sections have been converted into art galleries that detail Jersey’s occupation history from resistance, through to starvation, and then eventual liberation.
