Javier Mascherano suffers cut head, concussion and a twisted knee in brutal Spanish Cup final for Barcelona

THERE were concerns for Javier Mascherano on Saturday after he was taken off on a stretcher with a cut head and concussion in the Copa del Rey final.

The veteran Argentine’s evening lasted just 11 minutes following a clash with Marcos Llorente that left him bloodied on the floor.

The tweet said: “Mascherano has suffered a cut, which needed stitches, and concussion as well as a injury to his right knee which will require further tests.”

Blood immediately started pouring from his head after he twisted his knee while landing.

He left the field clutching his leg as he was carried off in pain – although he did return on crutches after the final whistle to lift the prize.

Despite the setback for the Catalans they still managed to go on and ensure manager Luis Enrique had a trophy to lift in his final game in charge.

Lionel Messi was the hero for Barcelona as the Argentinian scored one and provided assists for Neymar and Paco Alcacer.
