Jamie Cureton issues come and get me plea as former Norwich and Bristol Rovers goal-machine seeks club at 40

JAMIE CURETON has issued a come-and-get-me plea to clubs on social media.

The 40-year-old veteran has been a free agent since leaving relegated Dagenham in the summer.

The forward, who once snubbed a move to Alex Ferguson’s Man Utd, wrote on Twitter: “Season starts Saturday and for the first time in 24 years I will be without a club… Yet!!! #GoodThingsComeToThoseWhoWait #ageisjustanumber”

Cureton has been training with Colchester and has played a few friendlies of non-league Maldon, who have close ties to Col U’s Under-21 side.

But the striker, who has scored almost 300 goals during a 23-year career at 15 different clubs, is desperate for another crack at the Football League and has NO plans to hang up his boots.

Though he knows his age is proving a major obstacle in landing a side as he offers no resale value.

Cureton told SunSport: “I probably could have signed for a non-league club by now but I felt I would hold out. It is a bit strange not having a club at this stage.

“I am confident I’ll get a club. But the age thing has been a problem because some clubs write you off because of it before they even see you. It has been a massive block.

“I thought a deal had been done with one Football League club but the chairman pulled it at the last minute and it was because of my age.

“I have to keep hoping something will come up. I feel I can still play League Two football comfortably.

“I might have to join a non-league team on a short-term basis and hope something comes up in the Football League further down the line. But I have absolutely no plans to retire.”

Conference outfit Braintree have shown strong interest in the former Norwich and Bristol Rovers ace.
