But according to the Guardian, Gundogan is ready to give Guardiola a welcome headache with news that he is available for selection.

With a lack of football over the summer, the 25-year-old will most likely start on the bench but will be hoping to get some action under his belt in the biggest fixture of the season so far.

Gundogan has reportedly settled well in Manchester and was spotted house-hunting with his parents before updating his social media followers on his recovery.

Both City and Manchester United head into the fixture with three wins from their opening three matches but it is the rivalry of manager's Guardiola and Jose Mourinho that is most intriguing.

It will be the 17th meeting between the duo with Guardiola winning seven of them compared to Mourinho's three.

City will be without key striker Sergio Aguero and will make late decisions on the fitness of Bacary Sagna and Vincent Kompany.
