Asked why the former Chesterfield playmaker was not involved, Slutsky replied: “He is preparing to play for another club”.
But after being accused of downing tools, Clucas tweeted: “I didn’t and would never do that to a club I owe a lot”.
Hull are holding out for £20million for Clucas, 26, and have already turned down a £10m bid from Burnley.
Swansea are considering using some of their Gylfi Sigurdsson cash to sign the Tigers star, while the newly-promoted Terriers want to bolster their midfield.
Newcastle chief Rafa Benitez was also plotting a raid but was priced out by Hull’s valuation.
Jared Bowen gave the Tigers a half-time lead against the run of play as he turned in David Meyler’s cross.
