DIOCLETIAN (nap) should love the step up in distance in Brighton’s 2.50.
He showed promise in some decent maidens in the autumn when he didn’t look in love with fast ground. Today’s conditions should suit him much better and Jason Watson is a good young jockey with a fine record when riding for Andrew Balding.

CHARLES FOX (5.55 Newcastle, nb) looks a handicapper to follow for the shrewd James Fanshawe yard. He won over a furlong further at Kempton, but showed plenty of gears and should be just as potent dropped back to sprint trips.
POET’S VANITY (7.15 Kempton, treble) has more to offer. Andrew Balding’s filly was a Group 3 winner at two, but failed to match those heights during her Classic season and now drops in class for her seasonal return. This looks an ideal opportunity for her to get back to winning ways.
