Cancun is a popular tourist destination thanks to the hot climate, but while he retreats away, he cannot escape the criticism he has drawn from fans who are angered by his recent transfer.
An old quote of his back in 2010 went viral after he stated that money is ruining the game, and players no longer care about winning trophies but rather want cash in their pocket.
He said: “I’m tired of football but also tired of people who work in football.
The Argentinian striker proudly smiling with Shaghai’s shirt
“I’m talking seriously. Football is only about money and I don’t like it.
“There are so many agents with really young footballers.
“It’s awful as these young players are not interested in winning titles — they only want money.”
Tevez will join up with Chelsea duo John Obi Mikel and Oscar who have also signed for Chinese clubs this January transfer window.
Other big names to ply their trade in the Chinese Super League include Hulk, Gervinho amd Demba Ba.
