George Groves back lifting weights as he steps up training to fight Callum Smith in World Boxing Super Series

GEORGE GROVES is close to returning to full training as he steps up preparations to face Callum Smith in the World Boxing Super Series.

The super-middleweight final with Smith was due to take place on June 2 but is now set for a new date.

And Groves has posted a video of himself bench pressing weights as he nears a return to full fitness.

He shared the video with the caption: “Shoulders coming along very nicely!

“Not usually one to post the inner workings of the gym.

“But… it’s good to be lifting. Even if it’s just the baby weights his week.

“Next week we start punching and we start loading up the bar!

Groves was seen pumping iron with no problem in his London gym.

Last weekend Eddie Hearn said that he was unsure if Groves would fight in the final because the WBSS were looking for replacement fighters.

Hearn said: “They [WBSS] are asking people to step in, obviously waiting.

“I don’t know whether George put out that tweet to say ‘I’m alright, don’t take it away from me’.
