IT has taken Gennady Golovkin 11 years and 37 brutal fights to finally make it to Las Vegas.
Nicola Adams has arrived at the fight capital of the world after just seven rounds of pro boxing and determined to make the most of her big opportunity.
Britain’s double Olympic champion makes her American debut on the undercard of Golovkin’s fight of the year with Canelo Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.
She takes on the experienced Hungarian Alexandra Vlajk in only her third professional fight and is chomping at the bit to make a big impression.
Adams, 34, reveals: “Frank Warren called to say there was an on opportunity to box on the Canelo –GGG bill and I was like ‘hell yeah, definitely’.
“I can’t even put into words just how happy I am to be involved in an event as big as this.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever been to Vegas and I’m just trying to take it all in and use the energy to go out and perform and maybe build up a new fan-base.”
Adams, whose partner Marlen Esparza is fighting on the same bill on Saturday, is rapidly coming to terms with the demands of professional boxing.

She explains: “It feels more than like a game of chess. It’s all about getting your opponents to make move moves without realising that they are falling into your trap and then you can go for the finish.
“You’re placing your punches and looking for harder shots rather than throwing six or seven punch combinations that land but aren’t really clean like you do in amateur boxing.
“In the pro game it’s all about entertaining the crowd and give them the knock-outs they love.
“I’d love to be able to do that this weekend but I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot and promise ‘Yes, it’s going to be knock-out’.
“I don’t mind if it goes the distance because it means that people will get to see a lot more of me.”
