Here’s a look at defender’s time in football from his beginnings at the Hawthorns, to the start of a promising coaching career at Tottenham Hotspur.
From the Baggies to Villa Park
The Villa boss Ron Atkinson paid West Bromwich Albion a mere £40,000 for the tall defender in 1991, who had played just a handful of games in England's second tier for the Baggies.
A few years later, the youngster became an integral part of the Villa defence, forging a strong partnership with experienced defender Paul McGrath.

League Cup winner at Villa
Ehiogu won his first major honour at Aston Villa winning the League Cup against Manchester United 3-1 in 1994.
Ron Atkinson lead Villa out at Wembley against a United side consisting of Eric Cantona, Mark Hughes, Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane.
Wembley winner again with Villa
The big defender was at it again with Villa, this time managed by Brian Little.
Ehiogu played a crucial role in the 3-0 win, shutting out the Leeds United strike force lead by Tony Yeboah.

International recognition
Ehiogu's form at Villa Park prompted England boss Terry Venables to give the defender his full England debut before Euro 96.
He made his international bow as a second half substitute for Tony Adams in the 3-0 win against China in Beijing.

The defender helped Boro win their first ever major trophy beating Bolton in the League Cup final at Cardiff's Millennium stadium in 2004.
North of the border with Rangers
Ehiogu moved north to Scotland and signed an 18-month deal with Rangers in 2007.
His first goal will be the one Rangers fans will remember him for most, a spectacular over head kick in a 1-0 Old Firm derby win against Celtic.
The strike will go don in Rangers folklore and was later voted goal of the season by Gers fans.
