Ipswich legend Terry, 58,who played for the Tractor Boys for 10 years, clapped along with the crowd and welled up during the homage to his son.

The former England captain had already paid tribute to Christopher earlier in the week, saying his life had been “tragically cut short” before describing him as a “dedicated captain in the British Army” after serving in Afghanistan with the Royal Artillery.

Butcher won 77 caps for England and appeared at three World Cups during his playing career, which included spells as a defender for Ipswich Town, Rangers and Sunderland.
