The Owls moved for the 16-cap Dutchman after Aston Villa chairman Dr Tony Xia pulled the plug on Joe Bennett’s transfer – instead letting the left-back join Cardiff.
And Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal then moved for the 30-year-old left-sided player, who left Italian outfit Hellas Verona at the end of last season.
And Emanuelson said Carvalhal’s faith – and a decent pay day – swung his decision after playing just 22 games in the last two seasons.
He explained: “I understand that clubs are doubting me. But at Sheffield they showed that they want me. It was not ‘come first for a trial.’

“They offered me a good contract. I am equal in salary in the top group . (This) also shows confidence in me, so this is not a gamble for me.
“I need to play matches again. That’s why Sheffield is a good move, because they played last season fifty games.
“They’re playing now about forty regular league matches and I think I need to be playing regularly.
“The coach said that he has a lot of confidence in me and that I need.
“He wants to use me in the first place as left-back, but everyone knows how my career has been, I can still end up in the midfield.”
Emanuelson, 30, can operate in central midfield as well as full-back making him an attractive proposition for the Championship strugglers.

The Ajax academy product left Holland for Milan in 2011 but failed to secure a first-team spot and joined Fulham on loan.
He finished his spell in the Premier League having made 13 appearances – scoring one goal
Emanuelson – a 16-cap international – then joined Roma in 2014 before joining Verona on a free in January, playing ten times.
Carvahal’s side earned just five points from their opening five games and sit just above the relegation places.
