F1 Chinese Grand Prix second practise cancelled due to bad weather in Shanghai as poor visibility halts proceedings

DAY two of practise ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix has been cancelled due to bad weather.

The session was red flagged and failed to get underway following safety concerns at the track in Shanghai.

The poor visibility meant a medical helicopter would not be able to operate if needed, which meant practice could not get underway.

F1 race director Charlie Whiting said: “The helicopter can’t land at the hospital, which is about 38 kilometres away unfortunately.

“It looks reasonable here [at the circuit], I know, and there are helicopters flying here, but they can’t actually land in downtown Shanghai.”

Teams were unable to do any testing on Friday, after the opening practice session was disrupted by two lengthy red flag periods.

Whilst drivers and teams were waiting on a decision from the officials, Lewis Hamilton made his way to the grandstand to embrace his fans.

The Brit signed hats and flung them up the spectators who were sat waiting for action to begin.
