The 39-year-old, who is fourth on Chelsea's all-time top scorers list with 164 goals, touched down in Arizona to a hero's welcome as fans posed for pictures with the Ivorian at Sky Harbor International Airport.

Drogba is set to be presented to a full compliment of fans on Sunday, when Phoenix play Swope Park Rangers - he is not likely to play.

Drogba said: "It's going to be an amazing time here.

"I'm happy to be here and it's an amazing welcome from the fans.

"I can't wait to get started and to see the stadium [and] to see my team-mates."

Former club Chelsea beat Tottenham to reach the FA Cup final on Saturday evening.

Speaking before the game, Drogba admitted he would have loved to have played for Antonio Conte

"I think I would have scored a few goals," Drogba added.

"The way the team is playing everything is set up for the strikers.

"I've spoken to him many times and played against him when he was at Juventus."

Drogba will join former Blues team-mate Shaun Wright-Phillips in the desert.
