DERBY’s struggles in front of goal went on as they were held to a frustrating stalemate at home to Brentford.
Steve McClaren would have been hoping for a second successive victory since his return to the Rams after edging past Leeds United 1-0 on Saturday.

Instead, he could quite easily have ended up with nothing on Tuesday as Scott Hogan’s effort into the side-netting after rounding Scott Carson in goal almost broke the deadlock.

Carson also had to be at full stretch to tip John Egan’s header behind, while Tom Ince had a dipping free-kick turned over by Bees keeper Daniel Bentley.
Johnny Russell, the matchwinner against Leeds, and Ince had the Rams‘ best second-half chances.

Romaine Sawyers also had a penalty shout turned down as the hosts attempted to build up some pressure.
But all their efforts proved to be in vain as the encounter ended goalless to leave McClaren’s side just three points above the drop zone and Brentford still firmly in the play-off hunt.
