Asked if his job is safe in the long term, Moyes replied: “Yes. I have a four-year contract. I always felt I had that security from the day I came in.

“It was always said there is a bigger job to be done and that it might take a bit more time. You will have seen quite a lot of half-decent managers come through the door here, so maybe it’s not just the managers.”
And Moyes believes his side can still pull off a miraculous escape.
Ahead of today’s trip to Watford, Moyes said: “At this present time, it has been my hardest season. But I’m looking forward to it being one of the best times — by staying up, that would be the case.

“Is there an air of resignation about the place? I’ve not seen it in training or round the building.
“We’ve told the players how they’ve been in worse situations and it still turned out right.”
Sunderland and Watford are the only clubs in the bottom seven who have not changed their manager since Christmas.

But Hornets chief Walter Mazzarri is coming under the cosh, with a run of two wins in 13 Prem games dropping his ageing side ever closer to the relegation fight.
Defeat today could see them just four points clear of the drop zone and owner Gino Pozzo has been at the training ground all week.
Mazzarri said: “I’ve tried to make the players understand that I want them to play all of the last ten games as if they were cup finals.”
