DAVID GOFFIN’S coach called for improved safety after a freak accident forced the Belgian out of the French Open.
Goffin caught his right ankle in the tarpauline at the back of Court Suzanne Lenglen and had to retire while leading 5-4 in the first set of his third-round match against Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos.

An MRI scan later confirmed there was no fracture nor any ligament damage, so the world No 12 has a good chance of being fit in time for Wimbledon.

Coach Thierry Van Cleemput said the scan result meant “the clouds are going away and there is going to be a silver lining”.
But Van Cleemput added: “ I don’t think that this event will be followed by no consequences.
“There will be consequences. The decisions will be to have a safer court.”
The 10th-seeded Belgian was leading 5-4 in the first set when he limped off court with two trainers helping him. Zeballos carried Goffin’s bag.
