MICHAEL VAN GERWEN made a sensational TWO nine-dart finishes in a match… and nobody was there to see it.
The world No1 achieved the feat in a qualifying match for the UK Open – staged at a tennis centre in Wigan.

His second perfect leg saw MVG wrap up a 6-2 victory over stunned Ryan Murray, who is ranked 1023rd.

But the match took place on Board 25 of the floor event – in front of just a handful of onlookers.
Each leg saw MVG – who won his second World Championship crown at Alexandra Palace last month – make scores of 180 and 177, before taking out 144 with a double 12.

Incredibly, he had survived two match darts in previous round against unknown Adam Hunt – before scraping through 6-5.
Van Gerwen, 27, said: “Something clicked after I survived match darts against Adam and I could feel I might do something special today.
“I’m very proud to achieve this but I’m also experienced enough to know that it’s only two legs, so it was great to go on and win the tournament too.”

MVG is only the second player in darting history to make two nine-darters in a single match – after 16-time world champion Phil Taylor landed a pair against James Wade in the 2010 Premier League final.
There were an incredible five in total over the weekend event as Christian Kist, Ronny Huybrechts and Darren Webster added to the tally.
Van Gerwen defeated Gary Anderson to claim Friday’s title, before Simon Whitlock saw off Huybrechts to secure glory on Saturday and Peter Wright scooped Sunday’s £10,000 pot.
