But, according to the Mirror,  the Premier League champions  want Schneiderlin as a replacement if he does move.

Schneiderlin has fallen down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho and was not even in the squad for yesterday’s 4-1 win against the Foxes.

And a move January move to the King Power Stadium could be what the Frenchman needs to kickstart his career once again.

Drinkwater would join Paul Pogba in coming back to the Theatre of Dreams just years after being forced out.

He was farmed out on on loan to Huddersfield, Cardiff, Watford and Barnsley during his time at United.

The England international then joined Foxes in a permanent deal in January 2012 for a nominal fee.

And United showed they are still willing to splash the cash which could involve a deal for Drinkwater.

The Manchester United boss spent his £150million summer budget on Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitarayan, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic came in on a free.
