Everton and Chelsea were also reportedly interested in the 31-year-old Mandanda.

The Toffees only have one senior goalkeeper on the books, Spaniard Joel Robles, following Tim Howard’s departure at the end of last season.

There is also uncertainty at Stamford Bridge surrounding the futures of Thibaut Courtois and Asmir Begovic.

But Eagles staff travelled to the French Euro 2016 base in Clairefontaine to secure the deal.

Hugo Lloris’ deputy was available on a free transfer and the Eagles swooped to add another goalkeeper to their ranks.

They already have Welsh No 1 Wayne Hennessey, veteran Julian Speroni and Alex McCarthy on the books.
