Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather: Irish UFC star does not have the power to stop Money Man in the unlikely event he manages to touch 49-0 ace, says Carl Froch

CONOR MCGREGOR does not have the power to stop Floyd Mayweather – even if he can land a glove on the defensive master – according to Carl Froch.

Even the most ardent boxing fans have given the Irish UFC star a puncher’s chance, especially after his dominant recent wins over Jose Aldo, Eddie Alvarez and Chad Mendes.

But he went seven rounds with Nate Diaz and – although he won the rematch on points – and could not stop the Stockton ace.

And Froch believes Mystic Mac’s celebrated left hand might not be as vicious as his fans believe and he is facing a disappointing night.

He said: “It doesn’t matter how hard you can hit, if you can’t land.  I cannot see him landing that shot on Mayweather.

“And I don’t think he is that much of a big puncher, anyway, McGregor. I am really not convinced.

“Conor McGregor is going to want to get him up close and put him in an armlock but he is not going to be allowed to do that.

“This fight is going against everything McGregor instinctively knows so he will be made to box with just his two hands. It is going to be so hard for him.”

Despite his doubts over the Notorious One’s punch power, Froch is impressed with his pulling power.

At just 29 years old and with three defeats already on his fight record, the ex-apprentice plumber is about to bank around £100million.

The bravado McGregor is famous for in front of the cameras caught Pretty Boy Floyd’s attention and dragged him out of retirement aged 40.

But Froch feels clinging on and hearing the final bell is the best the Dublin superstar can hope for.

He said: “I like the way he walks around and carries himself, his body language.

“He is brave and tenacious. He is confident and full of self-belief, It looks like he does not care about other people’s opinions. He does his thing.

“He had the whole build-up to the Nate Diaz rematch and then he got in there and did his thing. It was a close fight that rematch but he got the win and said ‘look who’s back, b****’.

“He talked his way into this fight with Mayweather where he is going to earn what, £100million?

“I admire him, I am impressed with his marketing abilities and his power to promote and sell himself.

“If you go the distance with Floyd Mayweather that is a huge victory because most people don’t see him getting anywhere near that.”
