Chris Eubank Jr forced to vacate British middleweight title after pulling out of Tommy Langford fight

CHRIS EUBANK JR has defended his decision to pull out of fighting Tommy Langford through injury.

Eubank Jr has been forced to vacate his British middleweight title after withdrawing from the October 22 clash in Cardiff.

The 27-year-old claims to have suffered a severe elbow injury in sparring last week, though that is still to be ratified by a British Boxing Board of Control doctor.

But his camp are already looking at going for a world title, claiming Langford has been spared a beating because he is well below Eubank Jr’s class.

A statement from his team said: “There has not been a fighter in the history of British boxing who has had such a vast chasm of fighting prowess between him and the contenders for the British Championship in ability, speed, strength, accuracy and skill.

“The relinquishing of the British Championship due to injury sustained in a sparring session is perhaps a blessing in disguise.

“Chris Eubank Jnr’s management team will use the injury as an opportunity to step aside and fight high-calibre world competition.”

The boxer has been vocal in his attempts to call out Gennady Golovkin following his stoppage win over Kell Brook at the 02 on September 11.

But Golovkin hit back, saying Eubank Jr just had to find a pen to sign the contract on the table to secure the title shot.

Meanwhile Langford took to social media to air his anger at the fight being called off.

He said on Twitter: “I’m extremely disappointed with @ChrisEubankJr time waster. Total disrespect to the sport. Looking for a way out as soon as I was mandated.”
