Chelsea transfer news: Sergio Aguero emerges as surprise target for Blues as doubts surround Manchester City role

CHELSEA are reportedly plotting a surprise move for Manchester City star Sergio Aguero as a long-term replacement for Diego Costa.

It’s believed the Argentine will not settle for playing second fiddle to teenager Gabriel Jesus who has impressed since arriving at the Etihad.

According to the Mirror, Blues boss Antonio Conte sees Aguero as an ideal replacement for Diego Costa, whose future still remains in doubt following last month’s training ground bust up.

But the Premier League leaders are not the only club showing an interest in a potential transfer for Aguero, with Real Madrid also being linked with a move.

The 28-year-old’s future is coming into question after he was dropped by Pep Guardiola in City’s 4-0 win over West Ham, in favour of young £26m Brazilian star Jesus, who scored his first City goal.

And with Costa having previously been linked with a move to China, Conte is considering potential replacements.

Aguero extended his commitments to City until 2020 after agreeing a one-year contract extension at the start of this season.

But despite putting pen to paper, his role in Guardiola's XI is being questioned as he may not be the perfect striker the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss is looking for.

It's believed City were determined to tie down the forward in the summer to maintain the player's value.
