Chelsea transfer news: David Stockdale wanted by Leeds as race to sign Brighton’s out-of-contract goalkeeper heats up

LEEDS have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign Brighton goalie David Stockdale.

The Mirror sensationally claims that the 31-year-old remains a potential target for Antonio Conte after being targeted in January as a replacement for Asmir Begovic.

But the champions-elect face competition from Leeds, who are keen to bring Stockdale back to the city of his birth and make him their No.1.

The former Fulham ace and Hull loanee is out of contract this summer despite playing a pivotal role in Brighton’s promotion to the Premier League.

However, the Daily Mail claims Stockdale is expected to sign a new deal with Brighton as they prepare for life in the top flight.

It’s believed the shot-stopper was high on Chelsea’s radar at the start of the year as reports linked Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth.

Celtic ace Craig Gordon was the subject of a bid from the Blues but Stockdale appears to still be on Conte’s shopping list.

Begovic counts as a home-grown player after playing for Portsmouth as a youngster, which is why Chelsea have been targeting British shot-stoppers as his replacement.

But the Bosnia international is likely to seek a move away from Stamford Bridge in search of regular football, meaning Stockdale could yet find himself heading to the capital.
