Chelsea starlet Charly Musonda picks up injury in training ahead of flying out to Far East for Blues pre-season tour

CHELSEA starlet Charly Musonda suffered a blow in his development after picking up an injury in training.

The 20-year-old winger is set to fly out with the rest of the Blues first-team squad to the Far East for their pre-season tour.

Antonio Conte has promised Musonda, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Real Betis, he will be on the tour.

But the injury news – although the Blues are yet to confirm the severity of the problem – will come as awful timing for the youngster.

Musonda was holding his groin after a light training session.

He is yet to make his first-team appearance for Chelsea but is highly rated by staff at the club.

The club agreed a compensation package with Anderlecht to bring in Musonda and his two brothers to the club in 2012, aged 16.

Musonda, who was linked with Celtic earlier this summer, has been a key part in Chelsea’s successful youth teams, winning the Uefa Youth League and FA Youth Cup in 2015.

He has already been capped at every level for Belgium except the senior level.

The youngster cut his loan spell at Betis short last season, unhappy at a lack of playing time under former Blue Gus Poyet.

And Conte has hinted that he could play a bigger part this season, handing the Belgian the No 17 shirt – previously worn by Eden Hazard.

Conte put the rest of the squad through their paces at Cobham, with the Blues expected to fly on Tuesday night.

New signing Tiemoue Bakayoko was part of the session.

With Nemanja Matic expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, Conte has also told Cesc Fabregas he will get more games next season.
