Chelsea join Kostas Manolas hunt as Roma star fails to show for Zenit St Petersburg medical despite £30million agreement

CHELSEA have reportedly joined the race for Roma star Kostas Manolas after the defender failed to show up for his medical at Zenit.

Roberto Mancini’s Russian side had agreed a £30million fee with Roma for the Greek centre-back.

But Manolas was a no-show when he was supposed to undergo a medical at Zenit this morning.

And TMW claims Chelsea are now ready to make a move as Antonio Conte looks to boost his backline options.

It’s said that Manolas does not want to be paid in rubles and would rather receive his wages in either euros or pounds.

Whether Chelsea can coax him away from the Italian capital remains to be seen.

But Roman Abramovich is more than capable of matching Zenit’s bid and contract offer, while the lure of playing for the Premier League champions would surely be too good to turn down.

Chelsea are yet to make a signing since lifting the title but are confident of closing a double swoop by the start of next month.

Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is expected to join in a £35m switch, with Juventus left-back Alex Sandro set to shatter the club’s transfer record for more than £60m.
