Chelsea and Arsenal reportedly eyeing Manchester United ace Luke Shaw with talks yet to begin over new deal

ARSENAL and Chelsea are both reportedly keeping a close eye on Luke Shaw’s contract extension talks with Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the left-back’s turnaround in fortunes has put him in line for a new deal.

But that has not deterred the Gunners and the Blues from beginning to plot a summer swoop for the England international, according to the Daily Mirror.

Old Trafford boss Mourinho has been heavily critical of the 22-year-old defender on several occasions since joining the club.

However, the injury-troubled ace has started five of United‘s last eight matches.

His current contract expires with the Red Devils at the end of next season and planned talks over a new one have yet to begin.

Shaw is believed to be keen on staying at the club, but he may have to wait before thrashing out terms to try and get his current £80,000-a-week package bumped up to between £120k and £150k.

And that delay has alerted two of United’s Premier League rivals.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are reported to be trying to bolster the left side of their defence at the end of the campaign.

Gunners Nacho Monreal will be 32 and Arsene Wenger is thought to be seeking a younger replacement.

Meanwhile at Stamford Bridge, Marcos Alonso is rumoured to be heading back to his Spanish homeland.

Tottenham have also held a long-term interest in Shaw.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino knows him well from their time together at Southampton.

But the Mirror seem to suggest that their London neighbours have now raced ahead of them in the chase to secure his services.
