Charles Oliveira comes in TEN POUNDS overweight for crunch clash with Ricardo Lamas

THE eagerly-awaited featherweight clash between 145lb contenders Ricardo Lamas and Charles Oliveira was thrown into chaos when the Brazilian weighed in 10 POUNDS overweight.

Oliveira arrived on stage at the official morning weigh-ins ahead of UFC Fight Night in Mexico City and weighed in naked with officials holding a towel to protect his modesty.

Usually that’s the procedure for a fighter who is right on the limit, where losing their underwear can be the difference between making or missing weight.

But when the weight was read out it left the journalists in the room in a state of disbelief.

Oliveira tipped the scales at 155lbs, 10lbs above the 145lb weight class, and nine above the absolute limit of 146lbs allowed for a non-title fight.

He was fined 30% of his fight purse, while Lamas – who missed out on a main event fight with BJ Penn last month when the event fell through – has agreed to fight at a catchweight of 155, equivalent to the lightweight divisional limit.

The one condition the Brazilian will have to meet, however, is that he must weigh no more than 165lbs on the day of the fight to ensure he receives no unfair weight advantage on the night.

Elsewhere, the two main event stars Rafael dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson made weight comfortably before facing off at the ceremonial weigh-ins in front of the fans later in the day.

The first man to ever win The Ultimate Fighter, Diego Sanchez, arrived on stage with his usual mean face, but couldn’t resist a big grin at the appreciative Mexican crowd as he flexed for the fans before facing off with opponent Marcin Held.

And there were some bizarre scenes when middleweights Sam Alvey and Alex Nicholson, who’ll do battle in the UFC Fight Pass featured prelim, took to the stage at the ceremonial weigh-ins later in the day.

Alvey and his wife, former America’s Next Top Model winner McKey Sullivan arrived on stage wearing Halloween-style face paint.

And when the fighters went face to face in the staredown, ‘Smile’n Sam’ grinned his trademark smile while Nicholson shouted in his face.
With 24 knockouts between them, expect some November 5 fireworks when they meet in the Octagon later tonight.

And it wouldn’t be a Mexican fight night without a Luchador mask, and proud Luchador and Mexican UFC star Erik Perez obliged, wearing his famous face mask as he took to the stage to a huge ovation from his fans.
