Now, as he was pictured walking on his new prosthetic leg accompanied by his girlfriend Andressa Perkovski, Follman was in defiant mood about his future.

He said: "I am always going to be an athlete. I am always going to be the goalkeeper of Chapecoense."

He then admitted he is considering competing in the Paralympic Games in the future.

Chapecoense played their first match since the tragic incident in a friendly against Palmeiras in January this year, and will complete the incredibly swift comeback in their first competitive match against Joinville on Thursday.

Incredibly, Follman, unknowingly, saved the life of a team-mate on the doomed flight.

Alan Ruschel, 27, told of how he would not be alive if it was not for Follman.

He said: “Jackson Follman calls to me and says, ‘come, sit with me’ and I went to sit next to him because it was him.

“I’ve known him since 2007, so I got out of my seat and went with him.

“At that moment I was saving my life.”
