Gemmell made his mark at left-back for Celtic, despite being predominantly right-footed, and spent ten years with the club from the age of 18.

He also scored in the 1970 European Cup final defeat to Feyenoord, and is one of only two British players to score in two separate finals.

During his 10 years with the Hoops, Gemmell won six league titles, three Scottish Cups, four League Cups and the European Cup.

He finally left in 1971 to try his luck in England with Nottingham Forest, before returning to Scotland to end his playing career with Dundee.
