Burnley reward loyal OAP fans with chance of a lifetime to be club mascots for Lincoln FA Cup clash

BURNLEY went for experience over youth in their bid for an FA Cup fifth-round win over Lincoln by having OAP mascots.

Sean Dyche’s Premier League side selected a group of lifelong fans all aged between 69 – 85  to thank them for their decades of support at Turf Moor.

Burnley’s community chief executive officer said: “At Burnley FC in the Community we are committed to working with a diverse range of people to achieve our mission of inspiring, supporting and delivering change to communities.

“We pride ourselves on being an inclusive club and thought what better opportunity to celebrate Burnley FC’s oldest fans than by getting them involved in such an exciting occasion.

“We wanted to make the gesture to give back to the lifetime of support they have given to the club and we hope that everyone will join us in giving them a big cheer on Saturday!”

Burnley make six changes for visit of non-league Lincoln but the select supporters still got to walk out alongside Premier League heroes like Andre Gray, Sam Vokes and Joey Barton.

One dedicated Lincoln fan named Dave Goodyear couldn’t make the game due to a wedding.

So the Imps nut smuggled his phone into the nuptials, perched it on the order of service and watched the game in secret.
