Bruno lands new Brighton deal at the age of 37 as boss Chris Hughton hails the club captain’s healthy lifestyle

BRIGHTON club captain Bruno has landed a new one-year contract at the age of 37 – thanks to his healthy lifestyle.

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton praised the Spanish right-back’s form and attitude since arriving from Valencia in 2012.

Now Bruno is hoping to play at least one more season in the Premier League as eighth-bottom Brighton edge nearer safety in their first term back in the top flight.

The Brighton & Hove Independent report Hughton as saying: “Bruno has been exemplary in my time as manager.

“Firstly he has been an excellent right-back for the team, and secondly an excellent captain for the club over the past three seasons.

“The way he looks after himself, on and off the pitch, is an example to any player.

“It is due to that lifestyle of professionalism that he is still playing at such a high level at this stage of his career.

“He has been a regular throughout my time as manager, playing at a consistently high level.

“I am delighted to have agreed an extension on his current contract, which is hard earned and well deserved.”

Fans’ favourite Bruno has amassed 213 games for the Seagulls and is thriving with his first taste of Prem football.

After playing once for Espanyol, he made more than 100 appearances each for fellow Spanish clubs Lieida and Almeria.

Then he spent three years with Valencia before choosing Brighton for his first stint outside his home country.

Meanwhile, the Seagulls have been linked alongside Newcastle and Liverpool in a race for Gent winger Moses Simon.

The 22-year-old shone for Nigeria when scouts watched their 2-0 friendly defeat against Serbia last week.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez is thought to be in pole position for the £13million-rated star.

Simon joined Belgians Gent from Slovak side AS Trencin in January 2015.
