"Mario has the full backing and maximum support of everyone at BVB during his recovery!”

And it would appear Zorc is correct as the first step on his road to recovery seems remarkably positive.

In a statement released on the club's website, Dortmund claim they hope to have Gotze fully fit, healthy and ready for the start of the 2017-18 season.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke added: "BVB wishes Mario Gotze a quick recovery on behalf of his ten million fans."
