Bolton play minnows 1 FC Magdeburg… and German fans flock to match setting off flares

BOLTON’S friendly against German minnows 1 FC Magdeburg saw hundreds of travelling fans create an unbelievable atmosphere.

The game was supposed to be a low-key affair for the visitors to keep them sharp during their winter break.

The Macron Stadium was lit up for a low-key friendly
Hundreds of German fans packed the stands after making a 1650-mile round trip

But hundreds of supporters decided to make the trip armed with flares, scarves, flags and plenty of songs.

Their loyal following did the trick as Magdeburg held off a late Trotters fight back to record a 3-2 win.

The Championship club’s supporters were quick to hail their German counterparts after a stunning display of support.

Some even asked for the clubs to arrange a reverse fixture so the Trotters faithful could make the 1650-mile return trip in tribute.

Relegation-threatened Bolton travel to Brentford on Saturday just one point above the drop zone.

And they will hope for the Macron Stadium  to see a similar atmosphere to today a week later as they host Ipswich.
