Simon Grayson and Lincoln’s Danny Cowley have been heavily linked to the Oakwell job.
But SunSport understands the Championship club are weighing up a swoop for West Brom first-team coach Moore.
The former defender is carving out an impressive reputation for himself in the coaching world, with Oxford previously interested in handing him his first managerial post.
It would take a lot for Moore to leave Albion given he was only promoted to his current role by Alan Pardew in December.

Yet if Barnsley were to offer him the job it would pose a dilemma for the 43-year-old, who made 73 league appearances for the Tykes at the back end of his playing career.
Moore will have big boots to fill after Heckingbottom guided his hometown club to promotion from League One and Wembley joy in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
He also led Barnsley to their highest Championship place finish in 20 years.
