Barnsley 1 Burton 2: Jose Morais given harsh introduction to Championship as new Tykes boss

JOSE MORAIS was given a harsh introduction as Barnsley boss by Jamie Allen’s stunner after just 57 SECONDS.

The Portuguese coach had barely returned to the dugout having been introduced to the crowd when midfielder Allen cracked home a 25-yarder.

Morais had been sent a good luck message beforehand from Jose Mourinho having worked with him at Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea.

But even the Special One would be tested in keeping the Tykes up after a loss which made it one win in 17 league games despite a stirring second-half fightback.

Allen’s effort was his first goal since last summer’s move from Rochdale — but the Brewers’ second was just as good.

Manchester City loanee Jacob Davenport, 19, found the other top corner four minutes into first-half injury-time with a superb curling free-kick.

Barnsley improved after the break with Adam Hammill and Gary Gardner denied by keeper Stephen Bywater while Oliver McBurnie hit the bar.

Daniel Pinillos’ deflected goal gave Morais hope of a point with 15 minutes left.

And sub Mamadou Thiam’s last-gasp effort was ruled out as Albion leapfrogged Barnsley to go third-bottom in the table.
