Barcelona right-back Aleix Vidal out of action for five months after suffering horrific ankle break

BARCELONA right-back Aleix Vidal has been ruled out of action for five months after suffering a horrific broken ankle during Barcelona’s victory over Alaves.

The Catalan giants romped to a 6-0 victory but their win was overshadowed with Vidal’s horrendous injury with 87 minutes on the clock.

The 27-year-old went into a fairly innocuous challenge with Alaves’  Theo Hernandez but got his right ankle stuck in the turf as the slide tackle came in.

Collapsing to the floor, Vidal clutched his ankle in agony and instantly called for the medical team to come on where he was soon taken off on a stretcher.

And Barcelona later confirmed that Vidal will be sidelined until the end of the season after taking to Twitter following the victory.

They wrote: “Aleix Vidal will be out of action for five months.”

It will come as a major blow for the player who was just establishing himself in Barcelona’s first-team.

Vidal was making just his fifth La Liga start of the season and assisted Luis Suarez for the side's opening goal.

Meanwhile trouble erupted before the clash as 'around 50' hooded hooligans descended on Barcelona fans and attacked them with metal poles and chairs.

It is reported by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo that one supporter is seriously injured in hospital following a blow to the head.
