Ashes 2017-18: ECB ‘investigating claims Jonny Bairstow headbutted Australian batsman Cameron Bancroft in Perth’

THE ECB are reportedly investigating claims Jonny Bairstow headbutted Aussie batsman Cameron Bancroft.

The alleged incident happened in Perth earlier this month, with claims emerging Down Under overnight.

Fox Sports News suggests the late-night clash happened outside the Avenue Hotel at the start of England’s tour.

Bairstow – one of England’s top performers – was on the end of persistent sledging as Australia took control of the First Test.

And the claims about the Yorkshireman, 28, will add unwelcome scrutiny for the tourists.

Ben Stokes is currently suspended by the ECB after footage showed him involved in a fight outside a Bristol nightclub during the West Indies series.

After that incident, chiefs considered implementing a curfew while the players were in Australia but opted against the decision.

Bairstow was one of three players – along with Liam Plunkett and Jake Ball – fined in the wake of the scandal, which saw Stokes and one-day star Alex Hales suspended.

The police are not involved in the alleged incident between Bairstow and Bancroft.
