Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez’s future will be revealed in next 48 hours

ALEXIS SANCHEZ has little more than another 48 hours as an Arsenal player.

Boss Arsene Wenger revealed as much after leaving the Chilean out of the Gunners’ dispiriting 2-1 loss at Bournemouth.

He let slip at the end of his press conference the Frenchman let slip that Sanchez – hotly tipped to be heading for Manchester United – will likely be sold on Monday or Tuesday.

It seems United are happy to pay the £35million asking price for Sanchez – out of contract this summer – whilst Manchester City are not.

Wenger admitted Sanchez was now on “stand-by” for a transfer.

Wenger said he wanted to pick players who are “completely focused on being at the club”.

“Alexis would have played,” Wenger said. “But it’s a difficult period for him.

“He’s always been committed until now but he could have moved yesterday, today or not.

“It will be decided in the next 48 hours. It was a bit difficult for him because he was on stand-by, a little bit,
“That’s why I decided not to do it. He did not refuse to play.”

Sanchez trained for the game on Saturday. But Wenger did not want to risk the scenario of the player travelling to Bournemouth and then suddenly shooting off to Manchester.

Wenger explained: “That’s why I didn’t take a decision [to pick him].

“I didn’t want to travel with him and suddenly he goes somewhere.

“At the moment, it’s transfer period and in this kind of periods, you try to use the players who are completely focused on being at the club.”

Wenger insisted he will sign a replacement for Sanchez.

Brazilian winger Malcom is a top target but “there is nothing concete there” just yet, added Wenger.
