Arsene Wenger quit as Arsenal boss with four games left of season because of World Cup and transfer window

ARSENE WENGER decided to step down as Arsenal boss to give the club time to prepare around the World Cup and this summer’s transfer window.

The Frenchman, who has been in charge for 22 years, was labelled “irreplaceable” by chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

When the timing of Wenger’s decision was questioned, Gazidis said: “Arsene and the club need time to prepare.

“It’s going to be a condensed summer with the World Cup and transfer window.

“The decision had to happen at some point. I don’t think the club has been better prepared for that decision.

“Now it is time to look forward and I think we can do that with confidence.”
