Arsenal transfer news: Chelsea ace David Luiz’s odds to join Gunners are slashed by bookies after flurry of bets

BOOKIES have slashed the odds on Chelsea star David Luiz joining Arsenal before tonight’s deadline after a flurry of bets.

The Brazilian centre-back has been all-but exiled by Blues boss Antonio Conte this season.

He wants to quit Stamford Bridge, and Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements.

The 30-year-old has been cut to evens from 3/1 to make the move to North London before 11pm, and are now favourites.

According to the BBC, Arsenal are also looking at bringing in Roma’s Kostas Manolas if they cannot land Luiz.

Wenger is concerned by his defence after another disastrous performance in a 3-1 defeat at Swansea last night.

But with hours to go until the window closes, Emirates chiefs face a race against time to get someone in.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: “Arsenal have long needed a defender and a defensive midfielder, and David Luiz technically ticks both of those boxes.

“But, even more importantly, he also meets the essential Arsene Wenger criteria of being absolutely unable to defend. A marriage made in heaven.”

Luiz’s huge wage demands could be a stumbling block of the deal, according to the Daily Star.

Meanwhile, Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is set to complete a £18m move to Chelsea today.

He underwent a medical this afternoon, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived at the Emirates.
